A new study shows that vegetarians are more likely to suffer from mental illness.

I’ve been saying it for years. There is just something wrong with people who eat nothing but vegetables. Now there is evidence. According to a new study, people who don’t eat meat are more likely to suffer from mental illness. From CBS News:

an Australian study from last year… found that vegetarians reported that they were less optimistic about their future more often than people who kept meat in their diets. That same study found that vegetarians were 18 percent more likely to report having depression and 28 percent more likely to experience panic attacks and anxiety.

Now it’s quite likely that depressed people may avoid meat because thinking of another creature suffering makes them sad. And they might be anxious that the relatives of their last meal may come seeking revenge. But for me, I know there is little that makes me happier than throwing a slab of ribs on the grill. And nothing relaxes me more than a thick steak washed down with a glass of wine.

So my advice to any vegetarian who finds themselves felling a little blue, and about to reach for the prozac, try a bacon double cheese burger instead. It’s more organic.
