The California drought crisis is over, and the Climate is Changing again.
Thanks to Global Warming, drought stricken California now has too much rain; causing reservoirs to overflow, streets to flood, and TV Anchors to revise their talking points.
It was only a year ago the Evening News was filled with stories about how the California drought crisis was getting so severe, that residents were concerned they might have to import their bottled water. And we were all told the drought was part of the Climate prophecy issued by Al Gore and other psuedo-scientists more than twenty years ago.
Apparently the crisis is now officially over, as the Lake Shasta Reservoir is so full that water has to be released. According to the LA Times:
To make room in Shasta for water from last weekend’s storms, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation ramped up releases from 5,000 cubic feet per second to 20,000 cubic feet per second on March 18. It was the first time since 2011 that the bureau released water into the upper Sacramento River at such a rapid rate, said spokesman Shane Hunt. (full story)
But if you were about to suggest the abnormally wet winter means the predictions were incorrect, you would be as wrong as Chablis at a prime rib dinner. Because apparently Global Warming actually causes both rain and drought.
Most people soothe this contradiction by supposing Climate Change causes weather extremes. Apparently the Climate knows the diference between good weather and bad weather, and if mankind doesn’t treat it with respect, it will only produce bad weather.
But it isn’t even true. If you look at the historic levels of the Lake Shasta resevoir, you can see that the fluctuations over the last year are relatively normal:
California is a land of extremes. Its vegetation and landscape evolved from longstanding cycles between desert and deluge. In truth, “normal” weather would be a tremendous change for the climate of The Golden State.
There was a time when television storm footage was just presented as storm footage. Today, the underlying text is always that Carbon Dioxide is responsible for these stunning images. Every event is more evidence that the climate has been drastically altered by human activity. And now, we’re left with a highly unscientific view of the climate.
It can’t be good for science. The way science is supposed to work, is by a scientist making a prediction or hypothesis. If it happens, the hypothesis is correct; if it fails, it was wrong. Nowadays any result is more evidence of a valid hypothesis. There is an entire generation who have grown up believing this is the way science works.
It’s really not much different, than the way some people believe every event is caused by God, except people who believe that every event is caused by Global Warming, consider themselves of a higher intellect.
