This is an actual picture of a “16 year old” Afghan refugee, given a new teddy bear at the Swedish refugee center. See how happy he is? Not because he likes the teddy bear, but because he really pulled one over on the authorities
Apparently refugees are tearing up their papers, and lying about their age so they can enter the country as children. And the good people of Sweden are too nice to dispute the allegations of these grown men. According to the Daily Mail:
Under Swedish human rights rules, migrants are not physically vetted so their age cannot be accurately assessed (even by measuring the size of their wrists or whether they have wisdom teeth), because such procedures are deemed intrusive, unfair and unreliable. (full story)
In much the same way US liquor stores now card everyone under 40, Swedish Immigration authorities now assume anyone who looks younger than 40 is a child.
The problem arises when these “children” are placed in foster homes:
Struggling to find beds for the new arrivals, the mayor of Vimmerby, in south-east Sweden, promised to house them in spare rooms in old people’s homes.
They had, the mayor said, caused ‘serious incidents’ by abusing the old people, throwing furniture and computers out of windows, playing loud music late at night, and showing no respect for the elderly.(full story)
Many people today say that political correctness just another word for politeness and courtesy, but in Sweden it’s another word for stupid.
Stupid is as stupid does,…
They haven’t been a model since the 70’s?
Tell that to Bernie…
I thought his thing was Denmark
He wants us to imitate all you people.
So post-mortem construct reality in a socially stratified construct with race-based warfare in downtown of the Capitol is what he is going for? Sweden is a good pick.
Interesting. According to Breitbart, you can no longer link to this article in Sweden:
http://www.breitbart.com/london/2016/01/29/daily-mail-articles-blocked-in-sweden-over-migrant-stabbing-court-case/
Breitbart’s Swedish source is a far-right site
That’s irrelevant.
But what if the Bern actually ran some Swedish style policy? It could actually be good for the US.
– favorable to free trade
– deregulated markets, and much less of “hands on regulation” than the in US
– significantly lower corporate than the US
– less government control of financial markets
– pension system reformed from “pay-as-you-go” to program funded according to the performance of the economy.
The weird thing is that if Bernie Sanders actually ran on a Scandinavian platform, he would propose too free market in some respects for succeeding in American politics! Just imagine running against The National Education Association by proposing a Friedmanite school voucher system?
The story makes it sound like the mail has blocked Swedish IP’s, not Sweden blocking the story.
But Waldemar is on a Swedish In, so we can test: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3421150/First-picture-Six-foot-tall-15-year-old-Somali-boy-killer-Swedish-asylum-worker-appears-court-charged-murder.html
I am perfectly able to access the article here from Stockholm
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3421150/First-picture-Six-foot-tall-15-year-old-Somali-boy-killer-Swedish-asylum-worker-appears-court-charged-murder.html
Tim Slagle, fact checked by a real free market Swede in Sweden. Fact fails…
And Waldemar is right about some of the economic policies and school policies.
Thanks for checking that, Waldemar.
I doubt it is blocked, and by the screenshots at Breitbart, it is blocked by the paper if anything.
More interesting was Waldemar’s points about part of Swedish policies being too free market for Sanders and Hillary. You should write about that.
Yeah, I think it’s the Mail that’s blocking itself. But it is blocked.
With the horrors I’ve heard from British journalists about gag orders a newspaper can receive I would not be that surprised if that is the case.
However, this is the article they’re claiming is blocked:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3420150/Adults-posing-child-refugees-centre-aid-worker-killed-Victim-claimed-big-powerful-guys-aged-24-posing-orphans.html
It loads from Norway. Norway use dental checks and orchidometer tests to determine age in cases like this.
Irchidometer? I had to google that one, Lene. Funny. I thought it was like Carbon Dating or something like that. Not even close.
Orchidometer. Tiny keys on phone keyboard, and yes, those meters are a bit amusing.
It would make a fun necklace!
Very modern jewelry. Medicine chic.
I floored my quiz team by getting the answer for its function right 🙂
I’m still wondering if Waldemar can access that other article…
Can I ask a question? Why do people want America to change to be like another country? Being unique is its own quality no? America used to be about the individual and freedom now it’s getting a voting block large enough to elect people to punish the opposition through taxes and regulations.
Americans have been considered “backwards” throughout our entire History. We never latched on to the political fads that swept Europe, and because of that, we were around to save them from themselves when they did. If people want to live under Socialism, there are plenty of nations they can move to. For the sake of the world, it’s best to keep America free.
I’m afraid that much of the US current political troubles are not imported, but homegrown.
I was taught in High School America freed Europe from the Nazis. Seems to me the Nazis won. Europe is a socialist utopia of limited economic growth and lowered standard of living under the guise of free health care and college.
There are some problems in America that are growing in magnitude, but not being addressed by any political options currently on the table. Thus, people are grasping at examples from countries that prima facie seemed to have solved those issues. The Scandinavian way is not a solution to those problems, which is why holding up Scandinavia as the example to copy is g asking at straws.
Why do problems have to be solved via a political or by govt? Can you honestly tell me govt has solved any issues?
Government has caused or contributed to some of the issues we are talking about. The point is creating a political framework that permits the marketplace to sort out the problem, rather than political frameworks that aggravates the problem.
OK, back from trying to check up on this from both British and Swedish sources. I am getting blocked on that particular article, but its not from Sweden. It’s the Daily Mail doing so, to the best of my knowledge. Could it be the UK’s laws on slander making them jumpy? Swedish newspapers could publish such a picture, as the legal system works differently.
“The Scandinavian way is not a solution ”
Scandinavian socialism works in Scandinavia. (Somewhat.) If it were that easy to recreate it anywhere, I’m sure Venezuela and Greece would have latched onto it ages ago.
Well, Scandinavia did not start out socialist.
No civilization did. Civilization starts, when Socialism is abandoned.
How do you define Scandinavian socialism Tim?
Its an all encompassing safety net, that people are too proud to fall into.
It requires a certain culture before it’s possible. Of course, because of the same culture, it’s unnecessary.
Scandinavian safety nets (some variations here) are often gear towards the middle classes, Big Union, and Big Labor. Its about entering “the system”, not such much culture. Everyone receives and is dependent on government handouts, that is the foundation of the system.
It is a limited safety net catching the weakest of the weak. Stable economic growth created by making unions and trade associations mutually responsible for sustainable wage negotiations, and a large, mostly free market, private sector.
The all out handouts are for people who would be in and out of mental institutions, rehab, and homeless in America.
Then of course Norway has the silly money, when it comes to welfare spending
“Its about entering “the system”, not such much culture.”
But the culture prevents a lot of people from gaming the system. That’s why it’s more sustainable there than elsewhere.
Oh, the system was gamed. Particularly up until the big recession in the early 90s
“Norway has the silly money”
“Green” Energy subsidized by Petroleum revenue!
Culture is a factor, but ruthless enforcement is a deterrent. More than 1000 students just lost their right to student financing, because they lied about living at home to get a wee bit more money to support rent while studying.
Yeah, but the culture also supports ruthless enforcement. My friend Bengt claims one difference between America and Germany, is that Americans will quickly stick a quarter into a stranger’s parking meter to save someone from a ticket, while Germans will alert the cop that someone has let their meter lapse.
Actually you made that observation and I completely agree with you.
Well it was BASED on something you said that was very similar.
yes
🙂
The culture supports both ruthless enforcement and evasion. So far, evasion has been difficult.
But let’s figure out what would make Bernie balk at Scandinavian politics.
Well as far as the Norway Model, he’s be required to open up some Arctic Oil leases…
Well, Bernie is far too pro-guns for Scandinavia…
