If certain people get their way, Halloween will soon be as rare in schools as a delicious lunch.
On the day most schools have dedicated to not teaching kids about Christopher Columbus, it’s announced a Connecticut school district will ban Halloween in an effort to be more “inclusive”.
Victoria Johannsen, a mother of a third-grader at Live Oaks School in Milford Public Schools, says she received a letter stating the school’s decision to no longer recognize Halloween “arose out of numerous incidents of children being excluded from activities due to religion, cultural beliefs, etc.,” the Connecticut Post reports.
The school is discontinuing a popular costume parade, banning students and staff from wearing costumes on the day and is rebranding Oct. 31st to be “fall themed.” (full story)
It’s political correctness gone awry. You can’t go into a store without seeing tons of Halloween decorations, there are displays on suburban lawns all over the country, the TV is full of ads for costumes and candy, and ABC is set to air the traditional “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” on October 20th. In modern America it’s completely impossible to “protect” non-participating students from Halloween.
What is even worse is if more school districts start follow their lead, Bill O’Reilly will introduce a “War on Halloween” segment. And that’s a nightmare no one needs.
