The LAPD is buying electric police cars. Partly out of political correctness, and partly out of Government mandates, this is the New Century version of Adam 12. I can’t get over the forced smile this cop has as he looks over his new assignment. Eight hours a day in this thing, is not for the claustrophobic.
I’ve long suspected that the cops who are assigned bicycle duty, are the ones that all the other cops can’t stand. Because I think everyone laughs at bicycle cops (behind their backs, of course). Perhaps they are assigning cops to electric cars, so that the bicycle cops will have someone to laugh at.
I doubt that anyone on the force is anywhere as excited as the mayor is, over the eventual conversion of the fleet. From USA Today:
“Today, we take another step toward becoming the most sustainable city in America,” said (Mayor) Garcetti in prepared remarks. “This year, Los Angeles will become home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehicles anywhere in the country, and we will save taxpayer dollars along the way.”
Here’s the problem: these things only have a 40 mile range. Which means if OJ had led the LAPD on a chase today, he would have probably gotten away.
